The Breche de Capitello is a high mountain pass, situated at 2200m. It is a spectacular view point and can be snowed in early June.
This small mountain pass is situated above the glacier lakes of Melo and Capitello and the Restonica Gorge. Once over the other side you begin the steep rubbly descent towards Manganu refuge, lac de Nino and the Tavignano river. This stage of the GR20 from Petra Piana to Manganu is possibly the most stunning section. It takes in such a variety of scenery from glacier lakes to steep granite descents and lunar like cols. If you are looking for a way off the trail, about 1h after the Breche (from Manganu) there is a steep corridor that leads down to Capitello lake and onto Corté if you are looking for a way off the trail.
